Team Dale dominates again, this year entering two teams, one headed by Kieran with David Wigg first race in two years, Brad Emmott the 2008 NZ Junior Group 15 1/32nd Champion, Keith Cheeseman up from Wellington and Kenneth Mobberley ex Henderson and now Wellington racer as team drivers, the second team headed by Rob with Ray Jackson, Chris Wong up from Napier, and two very experienced junior racers Josh Wilson and Sean Page. Our president Rob Harrowfield entering a team with John Crothers ex Henderson and now from Rotorua and Paul Young a drag racer getting very fast and confident with Roundy / Roundy racing. Ray Smith’s team made up of Alan Robinson from Rotorua, drag racer Jan Pak and two promising Junior racers Mitchell Stevenson and Daniel Moore. The day started with qualifying, Kieran’s team starting as it planed to finish, qualifying fastest with 4.953 sec lap followed by Rob Harrowfield’s team second on 5.219 sec, third was Rob Dales team on 5.328 sec and Ray Smith’s team on 5.773 sec. Kieran’s team right from the flag fall was never headed for the 12 hours finishing on a record breaking 7580 laps, there car showing great reliability with only the grub screw coming lose in the spur gear, one change of tyres and several pairs of braids, a lot better than last year when they used three motors, many gears and sets of tyres. All the attention was on the second and third placed teams of the two Rob’s, for ten hours the two teams traded places until going into the 11th hour only separated by 8 laps Rob Dale putting his fastest racer Josh Wilson on the drivers stand for most of the hour with only short rest intervals and asking there number one teams manager to get on the track and put pressure on team Harrowfield drivers to try and pressure them into mistakes, these tactics working allowing Rob Dales team to pull out a 62 lap advantage going into the last hour, sensing a second place finish baring any car problems the Dale team used all five drive in the last hour to finish 96 laps up on Rob H’s team. The only drama with these two car was Rob Harrowfield drop 20 laps changing a motor early on in the race and apart form the normal tyre and braid changes ran reliably all day. Ray Smith’s team had problems most of the day with gear problems and motors moving but Ray never gave up the challenge allowing his young team members the opportunity to show how good a drivers they are. A great weekends racing had by all and thanks to the out of Auckland racers. |
